Enhancing Personal Performance & Finding Innner Peace

EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUES

Focusing on the positive by itself will not heal deeper psychological wounds. They must be addressed on an emotional and somatic level.

In addition to having a physical body which depends on food for fuel we also have an energetic body which depends on electrical impulses that run through it. This energy system holds the key as to why we experience emotional disturbance.

There is the difference between EFT and the psychotherapeutic paradigm. In the EFT paradigm we say that all negative emotion is caused by a disruption in the body’s energy system. Instead of re traumatising a person by revisiting a distressing event we instead correct the disruption in the energy system. This is what we see as the missing link (in the traditional approach) between accessing an unconscious memory and the resulting negative emotion.

It is with this energetic correction that cognitive shifts occur and new behaviours emerge effortlessly, things start to realign and move easily in the desired direction.

Emotional Freedom Techniques, or EFT is a universal healing tool that can provide impressive results for emotional, physical, and performance issues. EFT operates on the premise that no matter what part of your life needs improvement, there are unresolved emotional issues in the way. Even for physical issues, it is common knowledge that any kind of emotional stress can block the natural healing potential of the human body. When unresolved emotional issues are cleared, the result is more internal peace, happiness, harmonious relationships and vibrant health with increased energy. Personal performance can climb when we locate and clear our limiting beliefs.

With that in mind, EFT can be an ongoing process that we use to clear out old mental and emotional blocks, then we are able to welcome any new challenges with a healthy, productive attitude, instead of with fear and overwhelm.

Try Emotional Freedom Techniques for all issues when nothing else works!

What it is

Energy Psychology has been called “psychological acupuncture without the needles” or an ‘emotional version of acupuncture. It is both a clinical technique and a self-help approach that provides simple methods for shifting brain patterns that lead to unwanted thoughts, actions, and emotions. It draws from ancient healing traditions, such as acupuncture, and uses them in thoroughly modern ways. In that way it could be called the emotional cousin of acupuncture.

How it works

Tapping on acupuncture points (along with other techniques) while an anxiety-evoking memory or thought is brought to mind sends signals to the brain that turn off the anxious response in the moment and rapidly alters the brain chemistry that maintained that response, helping to overcome:

  • Excessive fear, guilt, anger, grief, doubt etc
  • Self image issues
  • Performance issues e.g. fear of public speaking
  • Addictions
  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Emotional eating
  • Past traumatic events
  • Unwanted habits and behaviors e.g. procrastination
  • Enhancing your ability to love, succeed & enjoy life

With EFT we use a simple two pronged process wherein we

1) Mentally "tune in" to specific issues while

2) Tapping certain meridian points on the body by tapping on them with our fingertips.

Properly done, EFT appears to balance disturbances in the meridian system and thus often reduces the conventional coaching / therapy procedures from months or years down to minutes or hours.

Why we tap for negative emotions

We all have a glass ceiling between 'where we are' and 'what is possible' for us. No matter what our level of success. Another name for that glass ceiling is our limiting beliefs and corresponding uncomfortable emotions. Unless we locate, change and neutralise these, we will not experience authentic change that is congruent and lasting.

It is when we want to make a change in our life that we come across these invisible 'blocks'. We can't see them but we sure can feel them. When we try and use will power to overcome these unconscious beliefs it is common to experience what we call failure, feeling stuck or fatigue. Frustration,self sabotage and feelings of lack of fulfilment can follow.

It's as though there is a part of us that sabotages the very thing that we say we want! Then we often go into self judgment and things spiral down from there.

Tapping on the meridian points of the body while tuning into the problem enables you to move toward your goals without the blocks. It also disperses blocked energy and is a way to come back to your centre and your sense of calm. It reminds your body of what it feels like to come from a place of peace, rather than coming from a state of anxiety or stress.

It is from a calm space that amazing results and wonderful health truly follow. Everything changes when coming from that place whether it is choosing what to eat, or how we relate to our loved ones and also to ourselves. Being in a calm place affects our creativity, our choices and moods our hormones and the pH of the body, therefore our overall health and well being.

Stressful emotions = Increase in adrenaline and cortisol which = Unhealthy living
                                            choices and Relationships

Clearing stress = Balanced hormones, peace & calm which = Healthy living choices

Tapping releases blocked emotions, limiting beliefs and allows the energy to flow again, which frees the mind, body & soul simultaneously.

EFT Directions ShortCut

KC = Karate Chop while using Intention statement
TH = Top of Head
EB = Beginning of the Eye Brow
SE = Side of the Eye
UE = Under the Eye
UN = Under the Nose
CH = Just above Chin
CB = Collar Bone
UA = Under the Arm

1) Note your starting intensity (0-10): ______

2) While tapping on the karate chop point, say the following stating your physical or emotional pain as specifically as possible (the “set-up"):
“Even though I feel this _______________, I deeply and completely accept myself.”

3) Tap on each of the points in sequence, approximately 5-7 times each, stating your pain (the “reminder"): “This _______________”.

We start by tapping on the karate chop point. I use the tips of all four fingers of my right hand to tap the outside of my left hand.

Next, we move to the top of the head and then we'll work down the body, making the points easy to remember.

Use the fingertips on one or both hands to tap the top of the head.

The eyebrow points are located at the beginning of the eyebrow, nearest the centre of the face. I use the index and middle fingers together, on both hands, to tap the two eyebrow points. X7

The side of the eye points are located on the bone at the side of the eye using the index and middle fingers together, tap on the side of the eye x7

The under the eye points are on the bone located under the eye about even with the pupils. Using the fingertips of the index and middle fingers, gently tap this spot under the eyes x7

Now tap under the nose with the index and middle finger of one hand. The spot is roughly midway between the bottom of the nose and the top of the lip x7

The chin point is not really on the chin; it is mid-way between the bottom of the lower lip and the chin, in the indentation x7

The collarbone spots are located about one inch down and over towards the outside of where a man would tie his tie. I use four fingers together on each hand to tap the collarbone spots. Or with palm and fingers flat, place thumb where the knot of a tie would be and tap with hand flat x7

The under the arm point is located about 4 inches below the armpit. I lift my left arm and use the four fingers of my right hand to tap under my left arm.

The dogmatic belief that the mind is limited to the brain is severely impeding discoveries in psychology and consciousness studies.

Our Emotional Forest – A metaphor

Typically during an EFT session we search for the most dramatic or stressful events a person has lived through, find out what they learned and how that experience was processed. This can be done relatively painlessly due to our knowledge of the meridian system and we can take ‘the edge off’ any painful memories before going into them.

If our emotional landscape were a forest and every tree was an emotional event, we aim to pull the tree out roots and all. This is called going to the root of the issue instead of dealing with the symptoms (trimming the tree tops).

We do not need to pull out every tree in the forest. We typically go for the big redwoods and when they crash they often take out a whole grove of trees at a time. This typically creates a lot of space in our emotional landscape to move and breathe, also letting in light where before there was none or very little.

After an EFT session people report that they can remember in detail the events but it was as if it happened to someone else as there is no emotional pain left. People report feeling calm and peaceful with new possibilities available.

EFT is a simple powerful process that can profoundly influence gene activity, health and longevity.
