The reason that children – especially babies and infants – are so impressionable is that children are born in a theta brainwave, and stay in a predominantly theta brain state until approximately two years of age. It is therefore understandable how the things we experience very early in life are impressed directly upon the subconscious mind, and these impressions can profoundly affect us for the rest of our lives.
Never before in history do young people have the level of stress in their lives that is present in today's fast paced life. In this rapidly changing world of technology, social media, fast food, toxins in the environment and in our food they are challenged like never before.
Young people feel pressure from all areas, from parental expectations to the need to fit in and be good enough, good looking enough, acceptable and so on, not to mention the hormonal changes along the way.
The brain as it is developing does not have the capacity to filter out what is useful or not useful information (life affirming or denying). Growing up we are like sponges soaking up everything, and it is all stored out of conscious awareness. We receive a wealth of input from the external environment, starting with our parents and later this includes siblings, peers, adults, teachers and coaches. The messages we receive become ‘the writing on our walls’. These writings becomes our rules for living (mostly unconscious), and we consult them for everything, and we use them to make sense of the world.
The events experienced when we are young make an impact and the more we accumulate, if they are perceived as negative create a mountain of internal stress. Young people often do not articulate what has happened to them and even if they do they are not able to say what the full effect has been of a negative experience.
For example: I have worked with young women who were told they were ‘fat’ by a peer and this lead on to self hate and severe eating disorders. If you don’t neutralise these deep issues at the mental emotional and energetic levels the effects of the early events are felt decades later.
As a teen you can use EFT to tap on your own meridian points to realign the energy systems of the body when life is turbulent. What you will be doing is bringing your body and mind back into balance and into a calm and peaceful place where truly wonderful health is maintained. The brain is clearer, the person is more present and there is more chance creativity will flow.
With the simple but powerful tool of EFT you, as parents, can talk (and tap) with your children daily about the ‘good and the bad’ of their day and in the process you can neutralise the negative effects of the day, thus avoiding the build up.
Anger and other emotions we treat as ‘negative’ often go unexpressed and therefore are suppressed causing dis-ease. I have observed this to be one of the biggest issues for people as growing up we are not allowed to express anger, and often it gets dumped on us. The energy of anger has to be stored somewhere and so it becomes stored in us, in our energy system. The effects of this are very detrimental to the mind, body and soul and can inhibit the bodies natural healing ability.
If we keep ourselves in emotional balance (by accepting and validating ourselves and our feelings no matter what) we are far less likely to reach for food, alcohol or drugs to soothe our uncomfortable emotions. Our self sabotaging behaviours don’t kick in and instead we can create a life that is fulfilling and self supporting.
By creating a self accepting space we are able to draw into our lives people and circumstances that support our self affirming beliefs.
Use emotional freedom techniques for any emotional/mental challenge.
